Sisu Sisu - NAC 600mg, 120 vcaps
Sisu NAC - 600 mg - N-acetyl-L-cysteine is a natural, sulphur-containing amino acid and a powerful antioxidant that has shown itself to be an effective detoxifier and a natural strengthener of the immune system. As a detoxifier, NAC can protect against the toxic effects of some heavy metals, herbicides and other environmental pollutants, and is useful in fighting certain cancers and reducing the toxic effects of some chemotherapy drugs. As an antioxidant, NAC can play a role in heart disease prevention by naturally lowering levels of lipoprotein buildup, and by fighting free-radical buildup following a heart attack. NAC has also proven effective as a fighter of bronchopulmonary disorders such as chronic bronchitis, asthma and cystic fibrosis, by breaking up mucus and facilitating its elimination.

What the research supports
Each capsule holds 600 mg of N-acetyl-L-cysteine, the exact unit most human trials use. 120 capsules is four months at one a day.
Mucus-clearing trials use 600 mg a day; some use more.
- Mucus clearing (evidence: moderate, from randomized controlled trial)
- NAC breaks apart the disulfide bonds that make mucus thick and sticky, thinning it so it clears more easily. Trials at 600 mg a day, the dose in one capsule, show this over several weeks to months.
- Oxidative stress (evidence: mixed, from randomized controlled trial)
- Cysteine is what your body needs most to build glutathione, its main internal antioxidant, so more cysteine can restock it when supplies run low. Markers of cell damage shift at 1200 to 1800 mg a day in some trials, not others.

Is it right for you
Worth it if
- Someone wanting to raise glutathione
- Cysteine is the limiting ingredient in glutathione synthesis, and 600 mg of NAC delivers it in a form that survives the gut far better than swallowed glutathione does.
- Chest feels thick and heavy through winter
- Thinning and loosening mucus is the effect with the most direct human evidence behind it, and 600 mg once daily is the dose those trials used.
- Older adults whose antioxidant reserve has drifted down
- Glutathione synthesis falls with age, and repletion trials in older adults are where NAC produces the clearest rise.
Look elsewhere if
- An athlete in a key training block
- leave it out around the sessions you are trying to adapt to. High-dose antioxidants including NAC can blunt part of the adaptive signal hard training creates. Adequate protein and food-level antioxidants serve better there.
- Someone who just wants a general antioxidant
- vitamin C or a mixed carotenoid at a fraction of the cost. NAC is specific to the cysteine and glutathione pathway, not a broad free radical sponge.
- Anyone on something daily from a pharmacy
- clear it with a practitioner before starting, since NAC carries documented interaction cautions and is worth checking rather than assuming.
What to expect
Nothing you can feel. NAC works on a pathway with no sensation attached to it. Taken for mucus, expect thinner and easier-to-clear secretions within several days to a week. Taken for glutathione status, think in weeks of consistent dosing and a blood panel, not a feeling. The capsules smell faintly of sulphur when the bottle is opened, which is the ingredient behaving normally.
How it compares
- Compared with a straight glutathione capsule
- NAC supplies the limiting raw material and lets the body assemble glutathione where it is needed, which is more reliable than swallowing intact glutathione, most of which is digested before absorption. The tradeoff: It is indirect. Cysteine is only one of the three amino acids glutathione is built from, so if glycine is short this will not fix output on its own. It also smells of sulphur, which intact glutathione does not.
- Compared with whey protein as a cysteine source
- 600 mg is a countable, dairy-free dose, where whey supplies cysteine as a variable fraction of a protein blend. The tradeoff: Whey also gives you protein and leucine you probably want anyway, and it tastes considerably better than a sulphur-smelling capsule.
