Purica Purica - L-Lysine Powder 1500mg, 300 grams
Purica L-Lysine Powder - One of the 8 essential amino acids necessary for normal growth, development and maintenance of health. L-Lysine plays a part in collagen formation and calcium absorption as well as carnitine production to convert fatty acids into energy. Lysine is also commonly used to help prevent and treat viral infections such as cold sores and shingles. In addition, L-Lysine may help to support a healthy immune system and proper cardiovascular function.

Why people keep reordering it
- Clean fuel
- Quality protein and greens without the junk.
- Easy to mix
- Blends smooth into water, milk or a smoothie.
- Recovery and everyday nutrition
- Supports muscle, energy and filling dietary gaps.
Best suited to: vegans eating mostly grains, someone who needs gram doses without capsules, someone already taking vitamin c for collagen.
What the research supports
Half a teaspoon gives 1500 mg of L-lysine, an essential amino acid. The 300 gram tub runs three to six months at one or two scoops a day.
Lysine trials use 1000 to 3000 mg a day.
- Collagen formation (evidence: limited, from mechanistic)
- Lysine is one of the building blocks collagen uses to crosslink into strong fibres. Adding more on top of a diet that already has enough does little extra for connective tissue.
- Calcium absorption (evidence: limited, from mechanistic)
- Taking lysine alongside calcium raised absorption and cut urinary calcium loss in a couple of very small human trials. The result has not been repeated at any scale.
- Carnitine supply (evidence: limited, from mechanistic)
- The body uses lysine as one of two building blocks to make carnitine, which shuttles fat into cells to be burned for fuel. Anyone eating enough protein already makes plenty.

Is it right for you
Worth it if
- Vegans eating mostly grains
- Lysine is the limiting amino acid in wheat, rice and corn, so a diet built on grains rather than legumes or animal protein is the realistic case for supplementing it.
- Someone who needs gram doses without capsules
- One 1500 mg scoop replaces three or four capsules, and 300 grams is a lot of amino acid per container.
- Someone already taking vitamin C for collagen
- Vitamin C hydroxylates lysine residues during collagen assembly, so the two act on the same step rather than in parallel.
Look elsewhere if
- Someone eating meat, fish or dairy daily
- You are almost certainly well past your lysine requirement from food already. Put the money toward the nutrient your diet actually lacks, which for most Canadians is vitamin D, not lysine.
- Someone who wants a fixed repeatable dose
- Half a teaspoon varies with how you scoop it. Capsules or tablets stating 500 or 1000 mg each give you the same amount every time.
- Anyone buying an amino acid to build muscle
- Lysine alone will not do that. Whole protein, or a complete essential amino acid blend covering all nine, is the right buy.
What to expect
Nothing you will feel. Lysine is a building block, not an active with a sensation attached. If you are taking it for skin and connective tissue, that is a months long process judged by how tissue holds up, not by anything that happens in week one.
How it compares
- Compared with lysine capsules
- Powder reaches 1500 or 3000 mg in one or two scoops where capsules mean three to six, and 300 grams goes far further than a bottle of 90. The tradeoff: You have to measure it and mix it into something, and it is an acid salt, so it does not disappear into plain water the way a flavoured powder would.
- Compared with a complete essential amino acid blend
- This is single ingredient lysine at a dose you set yourself, with nothing else competing for the same amino acid transporters. The tradeoff: If your diet is short on protein generally, one amino acid does not fix that and a complete blend would.
