What the research supports

Training hard through a heavy block: 5 g is a standard single dose in exercise research, and glutamine is the amino acid that depletes first during repeated prolonged sessions.
Wants a plain single ingredient to stack: Unflavoured and unsweetened, so it goes into a shake or plain water without fighting the taste of anything else you take.
Avoiding animal-derived amino acids: This glutamine is made by fermentation rather than extracted from animal protein, which not all glutamine on the shelf is.

Look elsewhere if

Hoping it will build muscle: Total protein around 1.6 g per kg of bodyweight and creatine monohydrate at 3 to 5 g a day are the two things with real muscle data behind them.
Wanting a lift before training: Glutamine produces no stimulation whatsoever. Caffeine or a citrulline-based pre-workout is the category you are actually after.
After general everyday digestive support: A probiotic or soluble fibre has better evidence for ordinary daily use. Glutamine's gut data comes mostly from states of real physical stress, like prolonged exhaustive exercise.

What to expect

Nothing perceptible on the day you take it. Glutamine feeds cell repair, so if it does anything for you it emerges over three to four weeks of daily use as easier recovery between hard sessions or a calmer gut. If a month changes nothing, it is not doing anything for you and you can stop.

How it compares

Compared with a recovery blend with glutamine mixed in: You get a full 5 g of glutamine per scoop and you control the amount, rather than 1 or 2 g buried in a blend you are mostly paying to have flavoured.
