Why people keep reordering it
- Covers the everyday basics
- Fills the gaps a normal diet leaves behind, so your baseline nutrition is handled.
- Active, bioavailable forms
- Built with the forms practitioners actually choose, not the cheapest raw material.
- Made for daily use
- Gentle and consistent enough to take every day, long term.
Best suited to: trying to conceive or in the first trimester, someone whose last prenatal was hard to keep down, anyone watching vitamin a intake in pregnancy, still nursing after the birth.
What the research supports
Two capsules give 1000 mcg of folic acid and 20 mg of iron, the backbone of this prenatal. 120 capsules is a two month supply.
Folic acid guidelines start at 400 mcg before conception.
- Fetal development (evidence: strong, from randomized controlled trial, meta-analysis)
- Folic acid helps the rapid cell division of early fetal tissue, including the neural tube that becomes the brain and spinal cord. Taken from before conception, 400 to 1000 mcg a day is among the best established steps in pregnancy nutrition.
- Iron stores (evidence: moderate, from randomized controlled trial, meta-analysis)
- Pregnancy increases blood volume and iron demand for both mother and baby, and supplemental iron raises hemoglobin and stored iron most clearly in women who start low. This formula supplies 20 mg a day, near but under the usual pregnancy target.
- Nausea (evidence: moderate, from randomized controlled trial, meta-analysis)
- Vitamin B6 blunts the signals that trigger early pregnancy nausea, likely by acting on the same pathways involved in morning sickness. Trials use 30 to 75 mg a day, and this formula supplies 50 mg.

Is it right for you
Worth it if
- Trying to conceive or in the first trimester
- 1000 mcg of folic acid daily is well above the 400 mcg baseline, and that window before and just after conception is when folate intake counts most.
- Someone whose last prenatal was hard to keep down
- Two capsules taken with separate meals spread the 20 mg of iron across the day instead of dropping it all at once, and 50 mg of B6 is in the range studied for early queasiness.
- Anyone watching vitamin A intake in pregnancy
- Preformed vitamin A is capped at 360 mcg a day here, far under the 3000 mcg upper limit, with the balance supplied as beta carotene.
- Still nursing after the birth
- The same formula is dosed to run from before conception through breastfeeding, so nothing has to be swapped out.
Look elsewhere if
- Someone with confirmed low iron stores
- 20 mg a day inside a multi is a maintenance amount. A dedicated iron bisglycinate or ferrous product at the level your practitioner sets is what actually moves ferritin.
- Anyone counting on it for iodine
- 50 mcg a day covers about a third of the usual pregnancy target, so add a separate iodine source to reach roughly 150 mcg, or use iodised salt consistently.
- Someone who specifically wants methylfolate
- a prenatal built on L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate. This one uses plain folic acid, which is what nearly all the pregnancy research was run on, but it is not the methylated form.
What to expect
Nothing to feel, and that is the point. The change is in blood levels over weeks, not in how you feel tomorrow. Iron citrate can darken stool and tighten digestion in the first week or so, and taking each capsule with food rather than on an empty stomach is the usual fix.
How it compares
- Compared with a one-tablet-a-day prenatal
- Splitting the load into two capsules spreads the iron across the day and is usually easier to keep down early on, and the 50 mg of B6 is higher than most one-a-day formulas carry. The tradeoff: Two capsules is two chances to forget, and at 200 mg of calcium and 500 IU of vitamin D a day it carries less of both than several one-tablet prenatals manage.
- Compared with a prenatal with omega-3 already in it
- Keeping to vitamins and minerals keeps the capsules small and free of fish oil, which matters if fish oil repeats on you in the first trimester. The tradeoff: You have to buy DHA separately, and DHA is one of the better supported additions to a prenatal routine.
