What the research supports
Two capsules at bedtime give 4.5 mg of melatonin alongside Sensoril ashwagandha and a small botanical blend. 60 capsules is 30 nights.
Sleep-onset trials mostly use 0.5 to 3 mg of melatonin a day.
- Sleep onset (evidence: strong, from meta-analysis, randomized controlled trial)
- Melatonin signals your body that it's night, nudging your internal clock toward sleep. Trials show the benefit levels off well before 4.5 mg, the amount here.
- Jet lag (evidence: moderate, from randomized controlled trial)
- Taken at your destination's bedtime, melatonin helps reset the internal clock disrupted by crossing time zones, which is what the label's one-capsule travel dose targets.
- Stress (evidence: moderate, from randomized controlled trial)
- Ashwagandha lowers cortisol output during the stress response, which trials link to lower self-reported stress after about 60 days. The 130 mg here sits inside the 125 to 250 mg range those trials used.
- Sleep quality (evidence: mixed, from randomized controlled trial, meta-analysis)
- Valerian is thought to raise a calming brain signal called GABA, but trial results conflict. Where a benefit shows up, it's usually from 300 to 900 mg, well above the 150 mg two capsules give.

Is it right for you
Worth it if
- Lies awake for an hour before dropping off
- Melatonin at 4.5 mg is the one ingredient here at a full dose, and shifting sleep onset is the thing melatonin actually does.
- Crossing several time zones
- The label carries a separate schedule for that at one capsule, so 2.25 mg of melatonin at bedtime while travelling and after arriving.
- Wound up at bedtime, not just awake
- 130 mg of Sensoril ashwagandha is a real trial dose for perceived stress, which is the part plain melatonin does nothing about.
Look elsewhere if
- Wakes at three and cannot get back down
- immediate release melatonin peaks and clears within a few hours, so it is aimed at the start of the night. A controlled release melatonin or 200 to 350 mg of magnesium bisglycinate fits night waking better.
- Wants ashwagandha through the working day
- a standalone Sensoril or KSM-66 capsule at 250 to 600 mg. Every capsule in this bottle carries 2.25 mg of melatonin, so it cannot be taken in the morning.
- Pregnant or breastfeeding
- the label rules it out for both outright. Ask a practitioner what is appropriate in the meantime.
What to expect
If melatonin works for you, a shorter wait to fall asleep on the first or second night, usually 30 to 60 minutes after taking it. The label asks you not to drive or use machinery for five hours afterwards, which is a fair read on how long it stays with you. The ashwagandha side is slower and shows up over four to eight weeks if it shows up at all.
How it compares
- Compared with a plain 3 mg melatonin tablet
- Adds 130 mg of Sensoril ashwagandha at a dose its trials actually used, so it addresses being wound up as well as being awake. The tradeoff: Melatonin is fixed at 2.25 mg a capsule, so you cannot step down to the 0.5 to 1 mg that suits plenty of people, and a plain tablet costs a fraction of this.
- Compared with a standalone valerian extract
- The 4.5 mg of melatonin does the sleep onset work, which valerian on its own has never done reliably in trials. The tradeoff: Valerian sits at 150 mg in a two capsule dose, under half the low end of what valerian research used. If valerian is specifically what you want, this is not how to get it.
