Purica Purica - Fiberlicious 9g, 250 grams
Purica Fiberlicious - Delicious inulin fibre from chicory root, this fructo-oligosaccharide supports the growth of friendly and healthy intestinal bacterial, therefore promoting good colon health. Inulin is in essence a prebiotic, responsible for increasing colonic bifidobacteria populations and modulating intestinal microflora. Purica Fiberlicious aids digestion and absorption of nutrients, assists proper bowel function, lowers cholesterol, improves immunity and energy, stabilizes blood sugar levels - therefore safe for diabetics and excellent for weight control and as an appetite suppressant.

Why people keep reordering it
- Researched strains
- Specific, studied strains at counts high enough to reach your gut.
- Guaranteed live cultures
- Potency held through the end of shelf life, not just at manufacture.
- Digestive balance
- Supports regularity, bloating and a healthy gut barrier.
Best suited to: wants to feed gut bacteria, not add bulk, already takes a probiotic, wants a fibre that dissolves clear.
What the research supports
Each tablespoon is 9 grams of chicory root inulin, food for gut bacteria. Two a day is 18 grams, and the tub lasts two weeks.
Bifidogenic studies use 5 to 10 grams of inulin a day.
- Bifidobacteria (evidence: strong, from randomized controlled trial, meta-analysis)
- Inulin passes undigested into the colon, where bacteria there ferment it as food, and Bifidobacteria in particular thrive on it. Trials at 5 to 10 grams a day reliably raise their numbers.
- Regularity (evidence: moderate, from randomized controlled trial)
- Fermentation of inulin in the colon draws water into stool and feeds bacteria that add to its bulk. Human trials found improved stool frequency and softness, though effects vary a lot between people.
- Calcium absorption (evidence: moderate, from randomized controlled trial)
- In the colon, fermented inulin lowers pH in a way that helps the gut wall absorb more calcium from food. Trials in teens and postmenopausal women saw this at daily amounts close to one tablespoon.
- Fullness (evidence: mixed, from randomized controlled trial)
- Fermented inulin may trigger gut hormones that signal fullness to the brain. Some trials report lower appetite ratings between meals, while others find no change once total calories are accounted for.

Is it right for you
Worth it if
- Wants to feed gut bacteria, not add bulk
- 9 grams of chicory inulin per tablespoon is a fermentable substrate, which is a different job from what a bulking fibre does.
- Already takes a probiotic
- Inulin is the fibre Bifidobacterium strains actually ferment, so it feeds what a probiotic capsule is delivering.
- Wants a fibre that dissolves clear
- Inulin goes into water or juice without the gel or grit of a husk fibre, and it is faintly sweet on its own.
Look elsewhere if
- Bloats from onions, garlic or beans
- A non-fermentable fibre such as psyllium husk or partially hydrolysed guar gum. Inulin is precisely the fibre type behind that reaction, and 9 grams a spoon is a lot of it.
- Wants fibre to firm up or move stool
- Psyllium, which bulks and softens. Inulin ferments before it can do much bulking.
- Wants a tub that lasts a season
- A larger size or a lower daily amount. At the labelled two tablespoons, 250 grams is gone in about two weeks.
What to expect
Gas and a fuller feeling in the first few days is normal and usually settles inside one to two weeks if you build up gradually. Any change in regularity shows up in that same window. The shift in bacterial populations happens whether or not you feel anything.
How it compares
- Compared with psyllium husk
- Inulin gets fermented by colon bacteria and raises Bifidobacterium counts, which psyllium does not do to anything like the same degree. The tradeoff: Psyllium adds bulk and produces far less gas, so inulin trades day-one comfort for the prebiotic effect.
- Compared with getting inulin from food
- 9 grams in a level tablespoon is more than a normal day of onions, leeks and chicory would give you. The tradeoff: Food delivers it slowly across the day, which the gut handles better than one spoonful at once.
