Pure Encapsulations Thyroid Support Complex - A comprehensive formula containing vitamins, minerals and herbal extracts. It was specifically designed to support healthy thyroid gland function. What the research supports

Two capsules give 150 mcg of iodine and 200 mcg of selenium, the core of a wider herbal blend. The bottle is a month's supply.

Selenium and thyroid trials use around 200 mcg of selenomethionine a day.

Thyroid hormone (evidence: strong, from randomized controlled trial, observational): Iodine is a direct building block for both thyroid hormones. 150 mcg is the full adult requirement, which this delivers in two capsules.
Thyroid enzymes (evidence: moderate, from randomized controlled trial): Selenium activates the enzymes that convert thyroid hormone into its active form. Trials around 200 mcg a day show real but inconsistent effects across different groups.
Stress (evidence: moderate, from randomized controlled trial): Ashwagandha extracts lower cortisol responses to daily stress over several weeks of use. This bottle's 400 mg dose sits under the amounts most stress trials used.

Wants selenium at the dose used in thyroid research: 200 mcg of selenomethionine is the trial amount, not the 25 to 55 mcg a general multivitamin carries.
Would rather buy one bottle than five: Iodine, selenium, zinc, tyrosine and four standardised herb extracts are already combined at set ratios, which is awkward and expensive to assemble yourself.

Look elsewhere if

Anyone whose thyroid a practitioner already monitors: Raise it with them before starting. Iodine at this level can move your numbers in either direction, and a formula with eleven actives makes it impossible to tell which one did what. A single-ingredient selenium is far easier to account for.
Already takes selenium or eats Brazil nuts daily: Two capsules put you at 200 mcg before anything else, against an adult upper limit of 400 mcg. Pick one source, or look for an iodine and tyrosine product with no selenium in it.
Wants ashwagandha for stress: A standalone ashwagandha extract standardised to 5 percent withanolides at 300 to 600 mg gives several times the withanolide content of the 400 mg in here.

What to expect

Nothing dramatic and nothing quick. Iodine and selenium act at the level of hormone production, which changes on a scale of weeks and shows up in bloodwork before it shows up in how you feel. Give it eight to twelve weeks, and get tested rather than guessing.

How it compares

Compared with separate iodine and selenium capsules: You also get 500 mg of tyrosine, 20 mg of zinc, vitamin A and four standardised herb extracts, at ratios already worked out for you. The tradeoff: You lose the ability to change one thing at a time. If something disagrees with you there are eleven suspects, and you cannot drop the iodine without dropping the selenium with it.
Compared with a general multivitamin: A multi rarely carries more than 55 mcg of selenium, almost never includes L-tyrosine, and will not have guggul or forskohlii in it at all. The tradeoff: This does not replace a multivitamin. The vitamin D is 200 IU across two capsules and there are no B vitamins, magnesium or iron.
