Preferred Nutrition Preferred Nutrition - PEA 400mg, 120 caps
Preferred Nutrition PEA 400 mg - is a chronic pain relief formula made from fractionated non-GMO safflower seed oil. Studies have shown that palmitoylethanolamide (PEA), a fatty-acid-like compound, offers analgesic, neuroprotective, and anti-neuroinflammatory benefits. PEA occurs naturally in certain foods and is made within the body as part of the endocannabinoid system. This formula features micronized PEA for improved solubility and absorption.

Why people keep reordering it
- Cartilage and connective tissue
- Supports the structures that keep joints moving comfortably.
- Mobility and recovery
- For active bodies and everyday wear alike.
- Skin, hair and nails too
- Collagen support that shows beyond the joints.
Best suited to: someone who has read the pea research, ongoing discomfort with a mast cell flavour, anyone who wants an option with a daily ceiling.
What the research supports
Each capsule holds 400 mg of micronized PEA, a fatty compound the body makes on its own. Three a day is the label dose, 40 days per bottle.
Trials typically run 600 to 1200 mg a day.
- Discomfort (evidence: moderate, from randomized controlled trial, meta-analysis)
- PEA acts on the body's own fatty-acid signaling system to calm overactive immune cells called mast cells. Pooled trials at 300 to 1200 mg a day found meaningful drops in reported discomfort over four to eight weeks.
- Nerve comfort (evidence: limited, from animal study, mechanistic study, small human trial)
- PEA is thought to calm the support cells around nerves that drive irritation. That evidence is mostly mechanistic and animal-based, with human trials small and often without a placebo group.

Is it right for you
Worth it if
- Someone who has read the PEA research
- At three capsules this hits 1200 mg daily, the upper trial dose, rather than the 400 mg a once-daily habit would deliver.
- Ongoing discomfort with a mast cell flavour
- PEA's main described route is calming mast cell activity and signalling through PPAR-alpha, which is a different mechanism from the plant extracts usually sitting beside it.
- Anyone who wants an option with a daily ceiling
- The whole studied range is 600 to 1200 mg a day, so at 400 mg per capsule you can dose one, two or three and stay inside what has been tested.
Look elsewhere if
- Someone who needs relief this afternoon
- PEA is a build up compound. Trials measure change over four to eight weeks. For something acute you want a different category entirely, and a conversation with a pharmacist.
- A vegan or vegetarian shopper
- The PEA itself is from safflower oil, but the capsule shell is gelatin. Look for a PEA in a vegetarian capsule or a powdered form.
- Someone testing this on a tight budget
- At three a day the bottle lasts under six weeks, which is barely one trial length. If cost is the constraint, a well dosed omega-3 or curcumin gives more weeks per dollar for a first try.
What to expect
Nothing on day one and probably nothing in week one. Trials that report a change generally see it building from around week two and measure their endpoints at four to eight weeks. If twelve weeks at the full three capsules a day has done nothing, it is not going to.
How it compares
- Compared with a standardized curcumin or omega-3 for ongoing discomfort
- PEA works through PPAR-alpha and mast cell modulation rather than through the eicosanoid pathway those two act on, so it is a genuinely different lever if the usual ones did nothing. The tradeoff: Far more expensive per day at three capsules, and the human evidence base is thinner and more concentrated in a handful of research groups.
- Compared with an ultramicronized PEA product
- Micronization already cuts particle size to address PEA's poor solubility, and it is the cheaper of the two processing grades. The tradeoff: A good share of the published clinical work used ultramicronized material specifically, and head to head comparisons of the two grades in people are thin.
