Natural Factors Natural Factors - BioCoenzymated Active B Complex, 60 vcap

Natural Factors BioCoenzymated Active B Complex - A one-a-day balanced formula of eight essential B vitamins in their biologically active forms, which do not require conversion by the liver to be absorbed and utilized. Suitable for vegetarians and ideal for energy support, especially during stressful times. B vitamins are essential for healthy tissue and red blood cell formation; for the conversion of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins into energy; for the synthesis of brain chemicals which support mood, nerves and sleep; for healthy hair, skin, nails, and eyesight; and for maintaining healthy cholesterol, blood sugar, and homocysteine.

Why people keep reordering it

Active methylated forms
B vitamins in the forms your body can put to use right away.
Mood and hormone balance
Supports healthy methylation, mood and hormonal rhythm.
Energy at the cellular level
Feeds the pathways behind steady, real energy.

Best suited to: wants folate that skips the conversion step, gets flushing from ordinary niacin, wants one capsule rather than a stack of bs.

What the research supports

A one-a-day capsule using active coenzyme forms of the B vitamins, including 400 mcg of 5-MTHF folate and 500 mcg of methylcobalamin B12. The bottle lasts two months.

There is no research dose for a B complex as a whole. Judge it on the individual amounts, and here the 400 mcg of folate and 500 mcg of B12 are the two worth checking against whatever else you take.

Blood homocysteine (evidence: strong, from randomized controlled trial, meta-analysis)
Folate, B12 and B6 work together to convert homocysteine back into useful compounds instead of letting it build up. Trials and meta-analyses consistently show this combination, at roughly these amounts, lowers it.
Blood folate (evidence: strong, from randomized controlled trial, meta-analysis)
5-MTHF is the form your body can use directly, skipping a conversion step some people struggle with. Head-to-head trials show it raises plasma and red cell folate at least as well as folic acid.
Stress and fatigue (evidence: moderate, from randomized controlled trial)
B vitamins are cofactors your nervous system needs to make energy and calming neurotransmitters under load. High-dose B-complex trials over 4 to 12 weeks report modest drops in self-rated stress in working adults, with small but real effects.
Energy (evidence: strong, from randomized controlled trial, meta-analysis)
Thiamine, riboflavin, niacin and pantothenic acid are required cofactors in the pathways that turn food into usable energy. Running low on any of them can leave you eating enough and still feeling flat.

Is it right for you

Worth it if

Wants folate that skips the conversion step
The 400 mcg here is already (6S)-5-methyltetrahydrofolate, the form that circulates in blood, so it does not depend on the enzyme that reduces folic acid.
Gets flushing from ordinary niacin
The 100 mg of niacin here is inositol hexanicotinate, which releases slowly and does not produce the flush.
Wants one capsule rather than a stack of Bs
Eight B vitamins plus choline and inositol in a single daily vegetarian capsule, taken with food.

Look elsewhere if

Taking niacin to move blood lipids
Inositol hexanicotinate at 100 mg does not do that job. A plain nicotinic acid product at a practitioner-set dose is the form that research used.
Pregnant or planning a pregnancy
A full prenatal covers the same 400 mcg of folate and adds the iron, iodine and D3 this does not carry.
Only actually short on B12
A standalone methylcobalamin at 1000 mcg gives you twice the B12 for a fraction of the price of a full complex.

What to expect

Bright yellow urine within a few hours of the first capsule, from the riboflavin. That is the only thing you will reliably notice. Trials on B complexes and self-rated stress or fatigue measure differences over 4 to 12 weeks, not days.

How it compares

Compared with a standard B-50 complex with pyridoxine, folic acid and cyanocobalamin
Every B here arrives in the form the body actually uses, so nothing depends on how well you convert the precursors. The tradeoff: It costs noticeably more, and for most people with normal conversion the cheap forms end up doing the same work.
