Why people keep reordering it
- Meaningful EPA and DHA
- Real doses of the fats most diets fall short on, not a token amount.
- Purified for freshness
- Distilled to remove heavy metals and keep it fresh, with no fishy aftertaste.
- Heart, brain and joints
- The essential fats behind how you think, move and recover.
Best suited to: vegan or vegetarian avoiding fish oil, someone who dislikes fish oil burps or aftertaste, wants better ala-to-epa conversion than flax oil gives.
What the research supports
Each softgel is 750 mg of Ahiflower seed oil, at least 42% ALA and 17% SDA. The 90-count bottle is a month at three a day.
Studies use roughly 300 to 400 mg of SDA a day.
- Blood lipids (evidence: moderate, from human trials, pharmacokinetic studies)
- Ahiflower's ALA and SDA convert partly into EPA, the omega-3 linked to healthier triglyceride levels. Conversion is real but well below what a fish or algae oil delivers directly.
- Inflammation (evidence: limited, from mechanistic studies, small human trials)
- SDA and ALA feed into the same anti-inflammatory pathway as fish oil, just less directly. Most of the human evidence for this specific oil is still small and mechanistic.

Is it right for you
Worth it if
- Vegan or vegetarian avoiding fish oil
- Ahiflower is a plant seed oil, so it delivers ALA and SDA without any fish or algae source.
- Someone who dislikes fish oil burps or aftertaste
- A plant-derived softgel with rosemary extract and mixed tocopherols for stability, no marine oil smell.
- Wants better ALA-to-EPA conversion than flax oil gives
- The 17%+ SDA content skips one of the rate-limiting conversion steps that pure ALA from flax has to go through.
Look elsewhere if
- Pregnant or breastfeeding
- Ask a practitioner before starting. The label carries that caution, and omega-3 at this stage is usually chosen as preformed DHA rather than a plant precursor.
- Wants a measurable rise in blood EPA or DHA quickly
- Look for a fish oil or algae oil softgel listing preformed EPA and DHA directly, since Ahiflower still relies on your body converting ALA and SDA.
- Managing triglycerides and wants a clinically dosed omega-3
- Choose a concentrated fish oil delivering at least 2 to 3 grams of combined EPA and DHA, the range used in those trials.
What to expect
There's nothing to feel day to day, this is a long-game fatty acid supplement. Any shift in omega-3 status shows up in blood testing over weeks to months, not as a noticeable effect after a dose.
How it compares
- Compared with flax seed oil
- Ahiflower's SDA content lets your body skip one conversion step, so more of it can become EPA compared to the pure ALA in flax oil. The tradeoff: Ahiflower oil costs more per bottle than a plain flax oil softgel.
- Compared with fish or algae oil with EPA and DHA
- Ahiflower is entirely plant-based with no marine ingredients or fishy aftertaste. The tradeoff: You get no preformed EPA or DHA, only precursors that convert at a limited rate, so blood levels of the active omega-3s rise less than with a direct fish or algae source.
